KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: A railroad man is President Bush's choice to help engineer a lasting economic recovery.
CNN's Frank Buckley is live from the White House with the Treasury nominee, named Snow, if you catch our drift.
Hi -- Frank.
FRANK BUCKLEY, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Hello there, Kyra.
And John Snow's job will be to sell and communicate the president's economic policies. He is the chairman and CEO of CSX -- that is the largest rail freight network in the eastern U.S. He has government experience. He is the former deputy undersecretary in the Transportation Department, and that was during the Ford administration. He was also the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and he headed the Business Round Table, which is that influential group of large company CEOs.
President Bush hopes that he will be the next Treasury secretary.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: I'll be proposing specific steps to increase the momentum over our economic recovery, and the Treasury secretary will be at the center of this effort. Appreciate John's willingness to serve our country.
JOHN SNOW, TREASURY SECRETARY NOMINEE: I am both humbled and deeply honored by your decision selecting me as your secretary of the Treasury. Should the United States Senate confirm me, I look forward to joining your economic team to advance a pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BUCKLEY: Now, Mr. Snow faces the confirmation process. He is likely to face questions on his membership at Augusta National -- that's the home of the Masters that's been under fire recently for excluding women as members.
Today, White House officials said that he would be resigning his membership.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ARI FLEISCHER, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: That's an individual decision that he makes. It is not in the president's judgment a disqualifying matter in the appointment to cabinet secretaries. But these are individual decisions that individual appointees make. It's not uncommon for people who get appointed to look at their various memberships and make determinations about what they want to do and not do as cabinet secretaries.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BUCKLEY: If he is confirmed, Snow will be replacing Paul O'Neill, who resigned as Treasury secretary very suddenly last Friday at the request of the White House -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: Frank Buckley from the White House -- thanks so much.
