KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: We turn now to the search for Laci Peterson. The wife and mother-to-be has been missing since Christmas Eve.
Now police have found a suspicious object at a marina where Laci's husband had been fishing.

CNN's Rusty Dornin joins us live from Modesto with the latest on it -- Rusty.

RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Kyra, you know, this case has been so frustrating all along. There's been so few clues, so few leads.

Now here comes something they say could be significant or it may not be significant.

The divers that discovered this object in the Berkeley Marina yesterday using side-scanning sonar say it's an object that only resembles a body. They will not confirm that they believe it's a body.

And then adding to that they cannot dive for it today, they say, because of very bad weather in the San Francisco Bay area, along with severe currents. And also, the divers, apparently, are very fatigued.

Now, meantime, police are just not talking, will not answer any questions about Scott Peterson at all. And of course, this whole new story raises speculation about Peterson and what he was doing that day.

I spoke with his sister this morning, Susan Caudill, and she says that she believes that if there is a body in that marina, it is definitely not Laci's.

SUSAN CAUDILLO, SCOTT PETERSON'S SISTER: They did say the word it could possibly be a body, but it could not be. It could be a car fender. So we're not going to speculate.

We're going to keep pressing on and doing the things that we are doing now to help in finding Laci and keeping her picture out there.

DORNIN: Now, members of both Laci and Scott's family this morning were at a local -- were part of a radio station show that was at the volunteer center, expressing hope that Laci Peterson is still alive.

She is eight months pregnant. Her due date is February 10.

They also passed out DNA kits to members of the community.

Meantime, police here say until they get back in the water tomorrow at the Berkeley Marina, they are not going to be giving any press conferences. And even then, they will not give a press conference unless there is a significant break in this case -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: All right, Rusty Dornin, we'll check in with you again.

Thank you.
