KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Shifting focus in the search for Laci Peterson. There are no plans to return to this Berkeley marina, where divers spent several days looking for clues. CNN's Rusty Dornin joins us now live from Modesto with a look at where things stand -- Rusty.
RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Kyra, refocusing their efforts, these searchers are back out in rural areas and rivers and reservoirs, streams surrounding the Modesto area. That's after divers over the weekend in San Francisco Bay uncovered that object that sonar depicted as resembling a body. It turned out to be a boat anchor that was embedded in the bottom of the channel.

Now, of course, that discovery was a relief for both Laci and Scott Peterson's family, but also somewhat frustrating because there's still the mystery of what happened to Laci Peterson. Investigators say they have no strong leads, but they do remain optimistic.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DOUG RIDENOUR, DETECTIVE, MODESTO POLICE: The investigation is going well, so it indicates that they are moving on. It's not like a dead end street. That's why we're still focusing so much attention with the department personnel to try to get this case solved. It's not drying up. It just takes a long time because we're dealing with a lot of counties and area to search.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

DORNIN: Of course, there's been rather a harsh spotlight on Scott Peterson over the last few days. They do say he still has not been eliminated from the investigation.

And in other sad chapter to this tragic story, over the weekend they was scheduled to be a baby shower for Laci Peterson's expectant son -- his due date was -- February 10, excuse me.

Family and friends did gather anyway in her honor. The anniversary of her disappearance is three weeks tomorrow -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: So, Rusty, what is the mood like in Modesto? Are there still lots of people coming out and volunteering to help with this case?

DORNIN: There really are. I mean, even over the weekend at the volunteer centers, particularly on Saturday, people come in, they still want to put out flyers. Even some of the local industries have put the flyers on the backs of their trucks in the hopes of traveling outside the Modesto area, they will keep this awareness, keep it in their hearts and minds, and it is still sort of a small community here, and people are really hoping for her safe return.

PHILLIPS: Rusty Dornin, live from Modesto -- thanks, Rusty.
