KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now, missing one month today, Laci Peterson disappeared on Christmas Eve while walking her dog near her home in Modesto, California. Members of Peterson's family will meet later today with reporters, including our David Mattingly, who is in Modesto -- David.
DAVID MATTINGLY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Kyra, we can expect to hear a lot of questions today about how Laci Peterson's family might feel about her husband, Scott. There's been a huge rift between the two families in this case for about a week now. This after Laci's family say they met with investigators, who showed them photographs of Scott with a woman that they believe was his girlfriend. Now, this is something Scott has denied. All police will tell us is that he has not been ruled in or out as a suspect.
In fact, there is no public indication that the investigation is any closer to determining the whereabouts of Laci Peterson than the day she disappeared. Police are keeping whatever findings they have in this case very quiet.
We're standing by outside the hotel where the news conference is going to take place. This is the same hotel where, last week, we saw a volunteer center set up. That volunteer center has since been shut down, and the hotel returned back to normal operations. But the manager of the hotel did speak to reporters yesterday, and he had some very uncomplimentary things to say about Scott Peterson.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BRAD SALTZMAN, MANAGER, RED LION HOTEL: I put in endless hours as a volunteer to help him, and when he was done with the volunteer efforts, he packed his car and left. Never said thank you, never said good-bye. So it made me sort of wonder what his real motives about Sunday were.
QUESTION: Well, what are your thoughts about his real motives?
SALTZMAN: At this point, unfortunately, I think it really wasn't to find Laci. I think it was to be in front of the media and look good in front of the media and show that he's shaking hands to volunteers, and that's not right.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
MATTINGLY: Now, Scott Peterson's family in San Diego have continued to voice their support for him. Both families, in fact, still holding out hope for a safe return of Laci Peterson -- Kyra. PHILLIPS: All right. Live from Modesto, David Mattingly, thank you.
