DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: It has been -- it started early today, 5:30 in the morning is what time the stars get up to find out if they've been nominated or not. We've gone through the list throughout the day. Now we actually have a real star with us, so we can go ahead and visit with Diane Lane, first time nominee for her role in "Unfaithful" -- congratulations.
DIANE LANE, ACTOR: Thank you so much. Thank you.
KAGAN: What a thrill for you.
LANE: Yes.
KAGAN: And for your fans as well.
LANE: Thank you.
KAGAN: Share with our viewers how you found out that you were nominated.
LANE: Oh, well, the phone rang, and I knew that if it was the phone that was waking me up instead of the alarm clock that that would be the call, and what a call. I mean, I fell out of bed.
KAGAN: Who was calling?
LANE: I didn't know I had that many lines on my phone. Everybody called at the same moment to say, Ah. And we were yelling and jumping around the house, and making coffee and just beside ourselves.
KAGAN: And then kind of all the hoopla begins.
LANE: Well, yes. I mean, drive your daughter to school and -- real life is definitely part of the day still. It's raining, and reality hits you. It hasn't hit me yet, I have to be completely honest.
KAGAN: Ever since "Unfaithful" came out, there's been a lot of kudos for your performance, but one thing that people maybe were hedging against a possible nomination was that it came out so long ago compared to so many of the movies and the actresses that you're up against. So that speaks even more to your performance.
LANE: Thank you. I feel that way, too. I feel doubly, personally grateful and touched for the recognition of the work. And, you know, I -- I... (CROSSTALK)
LANE: I'm beside myself, I can't help it.
(CROSSTALK)
LANE: In about two weeks, I'll be much more prepared to handle this interview with grace and aplomb.
KAGAN: OK. Well, you should remember that on the red carpet, that you stop by and just say, All right, now I'm ready to talk about it.
But you've been in this business for a couple of years, since what, you were 6 years old?
LANE: Yes. I didn't have any front teeth yet.
KAGAN: And so this is a lot of years to get to this place.
LANE: It's a bigger dream than I dared to dream for myself, and everybody was saying that my work was a possibility of being recognized this way. And I would just sort of -- shucks, who, me? Oh, well, we came out in May, and Oh, well. Because you can never really guess something like this, but I can't deny it now, and I have to live up to the moment, and it's a wonderful opportunity.
KAGAN: And on a personal note, I mean, you were born into a show biz family. Your dad, an acting coach, and worked with you a number of years. As I understand it, "Unfaithful" was the last movie of yours that he saw before he passed away.
LANE: Yes. Yes. He died a year ago this month, and I feel his energy all around me. It's amazing. It's amazing. And I almost feel like he's pulling the strings and made this happen because he was so proud for me, and I remember him saying that I had rung the bell and maybe I'll go all the way, and he was alluding to this. I know he was alluding to this, and he's here, and he was right, and I'm glad.
KAGAN: Well, how special. And he'll be with you on that night, March 23...
LANE: Thank you.
KAGAN: ... is the night. We will see you on the red carpet, and perhaps see you up holding -- holding Oscar.
LANE: Ah.
KAGAN: Now the hard stuff. You've done the acting, now you have to find a dress.
LANE: The dress. Exactly, it's all about what you wear.
(CROSSTALK)
KAGAN: Well, that is the fun part. You enjoy that.
LANE: Thank you.
KAGAN: Enjoy the kudos and the nomination.
LANE: Thank you very much.
KAGAN: And we will see you on March 23. Diane Lane.
