JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: Unfortunately, as we know, one of the stories of this war has become the prisoners of war, Americans captured by the Iraqis. Right now, there are seven U.S. soldiers are being held by the Iraqis.
And we, throughout the last few days have been talking to family members when we've been able to do so, and they've been willing. One New Jersey family told us that it first learned about its loved one's capture from a friend who had seen the story on the Internet.
Sergeant James Riley is the oldest of the seven U.S. POWs now in Iraq. A little earlier, Paula spoke with his family about his condition right now.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JANE RILEY, JAMES RILEY'S MOTHER: He looked slightly plumper then when I had seen him in July. And other than that, other than needing a shave and looking tired, like anybody else would be, his condition seemed to look pretty good from the one still picture we've seen.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WOODRUFF: Riley's -- James Riley's Army supply convoy was ambushed by Iraqi forces near Nasiriyah.
