WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: It's been a tough day for the coalition side of war in Iraq. We catch up now with the most significant developments in the military action with CNN's Renay San Miguel. (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) RENAY SAN MIGUEL, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Recapping developments in the past few hours. 1:25 a.m.: CNN's Christiane Amanpour reports that Basra, a key entry point for humanitarian aid is now considered a legitimate military target, according to British military officials. They say the hope is to wear down Iraqi forces which have pulled back to the populated areas of the city. 3:38 a.m.: Daryn Kagan reports from Kuwait that relief agencies have begun shipping food to Iraq which will be shipped in as quickly as possible. 5:26 a.m.: Iraq's information minister says Iraq has downed three U.S. helicopters in recent fighting but offers no proof. He says 16 Iraqi civilians were killed and 91 injured in the last day and night of bombing in Baghdad. 5:44: CNN's Walter Rodgers traveling with the 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry says elements of the 7th Cav have crossed the Euphrates River through a fierce sandstorm and under Iraqi fire. 6:00 a.m.: the British military says the city of Umm Qasr and its port are now firmly under coalition control. 7:00 a.m.: British Prime Minister Tony Blair announces he'll visit the U.S. tomorrow to meet with President Bush and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan. 8:45 a.m.: Dr. Sanjay Gupta with the Marines Devil Docs says two huge medical tents have been blown over by fierce sandstorms. 9:00 a.m.: U.S. Central Command says trenches in Baghdad are being filled with oil and set aflame in an apparent attempt to provide cover against coalition attacks.
