JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: Some important news to share with you right now from our national security correspondent, David Ensor. And I'm going to read part of David's report.
He says U.S. officials now say the voice on a taped broadcast last Friday by Iraqi television is most likely that of Saddam Hussein. U.S. intelligence conducted tests on this tape over the weekend. A U.S. official telling David the tests "show it is most likely Saddam, but we cannot say it is 100 percent because the quality of the recording is poor." The official said the testing has now been completed.
In the speech that was played on Iraqi television, Saddam Hussein or someone looking very much like him calls on the Iraqis to fight a jihad against coalition forces. And you'll also remember that on a separate tape that was played on Friday on Iraqi television, a man purporting to be Saddam Hussein was shown walking among the people in downtown Baghdad. Again, no way of knowing where that was done, but this official saying no way to know for sure whether the person on that tape is Saddam Hussein. But again, the voice on that recording that you just saw, the video recording you just saw, they said the voice most likely is that of Saddam Hussein.
