THELMA GUTIERREZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT: ... when that might take place. They say that they spoke with her yesterday and that she's very eager to see her 2-year-old daughter Janelle (ph).

Now, yesterday, the family learned that Shoshana was alive and well about 8:00 in the morning but it wasn't until about 3:00 in the afternoon that Shoshana was actually able to get through on the telephone lines to make it contact with her family and that's because the family says they received hundreds and hundreds of calls all day long.

Now they also received visits from friends who were very excited about the good news. Shosana's sister Nikki told our colleague Ed Lavandera that while they celebrate, they also have not forgotten of the families of the soldiers who have died in Iraq and those who will never come home.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NIKKI JOHNSON, SHOSHANA JOHNSON'S SISTER: It's kind of hard. Yes, you're just sitting here happy and want to plan a party, you know. And then these people are, you know, planning a funeral. You know, you just go on. I mean, you just -- you're sad here and you're happy here. You just go on. I don't know how to explain it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GUTIERREZ: And the Johnsons say that their hearts go out to another El Paso family now in mourning. That is the family of 18- year-old Private Reuben Estrera. He was also a member of the 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss. He was a recent high school graduate and was killed in the ambush near Nasiriya weeks back. Now Private Estrera is now being buried here at Fort Bliss at the national cemetery. Judy, back to you.

JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: Thelma, it must be so difficult to deal with on one hand celebration, on the other hand, a terrible loss.

GUTIERREZ: That's what she mentioned.

WOODRUFF: Thelma Gutierrez joining us from Fort Bliss, Texas. Thanks very much. TO ORDER A VIDEO OF THIS TRANSCRIPT, PLEASE CALL 800-CNN-NEWS OR USE OUR SECURE ONLINE ORDER FORM LOCATED AT www.fdch.com
