WOLF BLITZER, ANCHOR: We want to follow a developing story out in California involving the disappearance of Laci Peterson Christmas Eve. All of you will remember, she was the pregnant woman that's been missing since then.
CNN's Rusty Dornin is joining us now with news about a developing angle, potentially at least, in the search for Laci Peterson. Rusty is in Richmond, California. Tell us what's going on, Rusty.

RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, that's right, Wolf. In the last couple days there were two bodies that were discovered, a full-term baby and a body of a badly decomposed female in the bay here. They're not sure if it's linked or not. There's supposed to be a press conference within an hour.

But we understand there is not going to be a definitive answer that everyone's looking for whether this is, indeed, Laci Peterson and her unborn son.

Now just to give you an idea of why they're thinking it might be. This is the San Francisco Bay here. This is the area in which Scott Peterson says that he went fishing the day his wife disappeared. We're just north of the Berkeley Marina, where he told police he did go fishing. And they had been searching -- they conducted a number of searches over the last four months -- along this area of the San Francisco Bay. You can see this beach here.

This is the area where the woman's body was discovered yesterday by some people walking their dogs. Also the baby's body on Sunday was also discovered by someone walking their dog.

But it doesn't look like right now whether we are going to find out whether this is indeed Laci Peterson or not. Of course, DNA testing is being done to link the two, to see if they two are related, the baby and the mother.

Meantime, Scott Peterson, again, has not been ruled out and not ruled in as a suspect. It's the same line we've been hearing for months. The Modesto police were flown up here by the local authorities to take a look at the bodies. But they're not saying whether they believe it is Laci Peterson and her unborn son.

So still, this case still continues to have a lot of unanswered questions -- Wolf.

BLITZER: Rusty Dornin will be trying to answer many of those questions for us. Thanks, Rusty. You've been on top of this story from the beginning. We'll continue to follow it, of course.
