KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Well, sand traps weren't the only obstacle on a California golf course this week. Golfers also had to steer clear of a Marine helicopter that landed after some mechanical difficulties.
Adriana Alcaraz of CNN affiliate KSWB has the story.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ADRIANA ALCARAZ, KSWB CORRESPONDENT: Rudy Saldavar (ph) is out here taking pictures.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I was at my house on Lucadia (ph) Boulevard, and I saw Marines in the helicopters, like I always watch them, doing exercises out over the water, and I realized he was too low, unusually low. So I ran inside and got my son and I said, You know what, I think this helicopter is going to make a mayday landing.

ALCARAZ: And it did -- right on hole No. 2 at the Encinitas Ranch golf course. PGA golf pro Heidi Richardson (ph) can't stop watching.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's amazing to see this on our golf course. I got some great pictures, and so did the people in the golf shop, all of us who were here. This huge thing with our fairway and our green behind it. It's incredible.

ALCARAZ: Hole No. 2 has been closed since the landing yesterday morning. While mechanics worked to figure out what was wrong with the Super Stallion, golfers kept on golfing, and golf course workers kept us updated.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I guess the window of the helicopter blew off, went through the engine and hit the back tail, causing it to lose power.

ALCARAZ: The Marines replaced the engine -- and liftoff. For some, a sad sight. Larry Gonzalez (ph) says he hit his ball right into the chopper, and he actually ended up with a better lie.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm hoping they can show up every Saturday morning about 7:00, so if you could arrange that for me, I'd appreciate it.
