KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: In baseball, you're -- you're out after three strikes, right? But don't tell this California canine this, because after a turn of events that would have killed three lesser dogs, Dosha is still standing, still sitting, and rolling over, anything but playing dead. Mike Teselle from our affiliate KCRA explains.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Baby. Yes, she's a baby.

MIKE TESELLE, KCRA CORRESPONDENT: This 10-month-old puppy, Dosha, is being called a miracle dog.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She is a miracle dog. Dosha is the miracle dog of Clearlake.

TESELLE: After all, just one week ago, this dog was written off as dead along a Clearlake roadside.

(on camera): Dosha was discovered here along Olympic Street, just about a block down. She was hit by a car, lying on the side of the road. A Clearlake police officer found her, tried to find her owner, but seeing that she was suffering, decided to shoot her.

BOB CHALK, CLEARLAKE POLICE CHIEF: The dog appeared to be suffering at the time, and the officer felt that the immediate action necessary in order to keep the dog from suffering further was to dispatch the animal at the scene.

TESELLE: The dog, seemingly euthanized, was then put into a freezer along with other animal corpses. That is until two hours later, when an animal control officer discovered Dosha was still breathing, still alive, but suffering from hypothermia. She was rushed to this nearby vet clinic.

KRISTIN WESCOTT, REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN: She was pretty bad when she came in. Any animal having a temperature as low as hers is a serious situation.

You can see a fracture right here on her cheekbone.

TESELLE: But now, after intense life-saving efforts, after being hit by a car, shot in the head, and nearly freezing to death, this puppy is alive and well.

WESCOTT: We expect her to make a full recovery. TESELLE: Now you know why Dosha is making headlines as the miracle dog of Clearlake, California.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think it's a miracle, yes. Oh, my God, yes, I do. She's got the Lord watching over her for sure.

TESELLE: In Clearlake, Mike Teselle, KCRA Reports.
