MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: All right. If you're a TIVO lover, you might be missing some fun, along with all the other commercials you don't want to see. And Jeanne Moos is here to tell you about some of the best in commercial television.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
JEANNE MOOS, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The stars at this show range from an ill-fated cow to an angry chicken. And though Andy's sleek silhouette was everywhere...
(on camera): Who is ANDY?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't know ANDY.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: ANDY is a girl.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: ANDY and I met in prison.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: There's an uncanny sort of family resemblance.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: ANDY is an acronym for Ad New York jumbled up.
MOOS (voice-over): You probably recognize some of the ANDY winners. For instance, the guy getting dragged by a cursor or the IKEA ad with the lamp taken out like trash, left to sit out in the rain after it's been replaced.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Many of you feel bad for this lamp. That is because you're crazy. It has no feelings.
MOOS: Each ad has a title. This ANDY winner done for Fox Sports is called "Dumpster". Some of the edgier ads have never aired in the U.S. Reminiscent of a popped cork, this ad for X-Box video games is called "Champagne". The ad features seven actors ranging in age from nine months to 65 years.
Seem a little morbid to you? Well, in England...
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It creates a lot of controversy.
MOOS: ... controversy, controversy, whatever you call it, several of the winners were no stranger to it and are too racy for American TV. Japanese TV advertised itself by inviting viewers to step into another world. Ads for the History Channel won ANDYs. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE), all your systems are looking good.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE).
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's beautiful, just beautiful.
MOOS: The top ANDY award, known as the Grandy, went to a whimsical spot called "Square" for a car that's not. The ANDY Awards got a little randy with Nike's ad called "Streaker".
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh dear. That's an image going to stay with me for a very long time. And he's off with like a bull with gas.
MOOS: After Nike released "Streaker," Reebok came out with a counter ad in which the streaker is struck. But it's the original ad that won the ANDY, continuing Nike's winning streaker (ph). Jeanne Moos, CNN, New York.
