KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now to the Laci Peterson investigation. Divers hope the San Francisco Bay will hold the missing clues to the killings of the mother and her unborn child.
Reporter Simon Perez of CNN affiliate KPIX is live from the site of the investigation in Richmond, Virginia (sic) -- Simon.

SIMON PEREZ, KPIX REPORTER: Actually, we're out here in Richmond, California. This is exactly the spot right here is where Laci Peterson's body washed up just about a month ago. And of course, that is why search crews are out on the water. They went out again about 9:00 this morning.

Take a look at these pictures. You can see the dive crews out marking the area with buoys that they are looking for. And, in fact, we have just found out that New York FBI search teams are also participating in this effort. We understand that New York dive crews from the FBI are experts in underwater evidence recovery. That's what they have told us. And, in fact, they do participate in underwater searches around the world. So they have been called in here presumably by the Modesto police department to try to find any clues that can bolster the case that they've got against Scott Peterson. That is the only person who has been charged in this case. Of course, the murders, the homicides of Laci Peterson, his wife and their unborn son, Conner.

Now the crews, once again, went around 9:00 this morning. First they marked the area that they looked for and then they went into the water. They are using underwater sonar equipment to help them try to see exactly what is underneath the waters of the bay here, some very murky waters, to try to see what is exactly down at the bottom.

Now you'll recall they searched and searched the bay for weeks and, in fact, all they've come up with so far that we know is an anchor that they found at the Berkeley marina. And it wasn't until mid-April that the real evidence and clues that there, indeed, had been a murder washed ashore. And that, of course, would be the April 13 washing ashore of the body of Peterson's son. That was about a mile from where I'm standing. And then the next day, right here, some more people walking along the shoreline actually found Laci Peterson's body. But again, that is about it.

Now what could they be looking for? Well, we're assuming that they're in search of more evidence, and that could include some type of weights that may have held the bodies at the bottom of the bay, some type of tarp perhaps that was used to wrap the bodies up or maybe even the rest of the remains of the bodies of Laci Peterson.

Now back here live, once again, we do have crews that are back out here. We expect them to be here for a couple of days. And not only are their search teams here from around the Bay Area, several counties that ring the bay, but we've also found out that the New York FBI dive team is out here as well.

PHILLIPS: All right, Simon Perez from Richmond, California, thank you so much for that live report.
