KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Moving on to other news, today, our other top story. A Spanish-speaking toddler can't tell them much about himself, but police want to know more about little Mateo Doe, such as why was the 2-year-old left to wander the streets of Bakersfield, California.
Tricia Hua from CNN affiliate KGET has that story.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
TRICIA HUA, CNN AFFILIATE KGET REPORTER (voice-over): "Show us your house," says a detective to this 2-year-old. And with a teddy bear tucked under his left arm, the toddler grabs the detective's hand and wanders down the street.
Little is known about this boy. Speaking only in Spanish, he says his name is Mateo.
DET. MARY DEGEARE, BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIA POLICE: He speaks very little, and he hasn't been able to tell us anything that would help us identify him, other than, you know, indicating that his first name was Mateo. So, at this point, all we can do is take him out, hope he recognizes something, hope somebody recognizes him, and call us with some information.
HUA: A driver found Mateo wandering near Haley and Niles in northeast Bakersfield late Sunday night, but detectives say it's hard to tell whether he even recognizes this neighborhood. Asking Mateo to lead the way, he points in all four directions.
Mateo doesn't know it, but his picture is posted all over this neighborhood. At Niles drug store, it's next to every register so that no one leaves the store without seeing this poster.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You have to wonder what he is feeling. Everybody is talking about it, and we're all looking at the picture, trying to see if we can recognize him. And nobody seems to know this little boy.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
PHILLIPS: Well, if you recognize little Mateo, Bakersfield police want to hear from you. You can call them at 661-327-7111.
