MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Across the country this holiday offers us a curious mixture of reverence and celebration as well. There's a lot of the latter going on today in the City of Brotherly Love; that's where we find CNN's Jamie Colby standing by at the annual "Jam on the River."
Hello, Jamie.

JAMIE COLBY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Miles how are you? This is the 18th annual "Jam on the River" and since we spoke last the crowds have picked up as has the noise.

Right now Dawn of the Buffalo (ph) is getting ready to take center stage here on the main stage. Later tonight the Disco Biscuits (ph) and Old and Grey (ph), 70s favorites that many people here have come to see, but as I've been telling you, they're also coming for the food.

So I thought I'd take you back to the food court where of course you can get a Philly cheese steak, as you saw earlier you can get alligator on a stick. And these folks here - we had talked to them earlier - you came from Baltimore, what did you taste today?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I tasted some blackened chicken with taco ham and cheddar cheese.

COLBY: And what do you think? Are you here for the food or the music?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Both. Both. Food and music.

COLBY: Definitely. It's all about a good time on this Memorial Day. How does it feel - you're from Texas. How does it feel to be in Philadelphia?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Cold. I'm not used to all this dampness and the wetness. I left it was pretty warm there - it's been pretty warm for quite some time, so.

COLBY: And this is the kick off of the Philly summer season, but it doesn't feel like it to you.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Not to me.

COLBY: All right, well, are you going to stay for the music? UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, yes, definitely.

COLBY: Well all these festivities go on till 9:00 tonight. Thanks folks, enjoy, don't forget the chocolate covered Oreos. Those are very good - the deep-fried Oreos that we tried earlier.

And I want to introduce you to another family, here. They are having, as you can see, coming for a close look. This is the alligator sausage, which we tried for you on air earlier. How was it?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's fabulous. We get it every year. It's wonderful. She wouldn't try it.

COLBY: What do you think about the festival this year as compared to year's past, not only because of the weather but also because there is a terror alert. You think people stayed home?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's - you know, it's tough to say. It's probably more the weather than anything, I would think. But there's still a pretty decent crowd. We come every year. I'd say there's still a pretty decent crowd here.

COLBY: There's a good crowd and a lot of smiling faces. I know the rain did dampen the crowd; it didn't dampen the spirits here in Philadelphia. Miles.

O'BRIEN: All right thank you very much. CNN's Jamie Colby joining us from Philadelphia. Hope you enjoyed the day and don't eat too much alligator on a stick.
