KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: And this news just in to CNN. We are told the brother-in-law of Saddam Hussein has been taken into U.S. custody. Chris Plante live now at the Pentagon with more details. Chris, what do you know.
CHRIS PLANTE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: All right, Kyra, that's right. It appears the day before yesterday in the town of Tikrit, north of Baghdad, which is Saddam Hussein's family's hometown, his ancestral town, as it's called, U.S. Military officials found themselves in a high-speed chase with a vehicle headed toward a hospital in Tikrit. When they arrived at the hospital, behind that vehicle there was a man in the car with a gunshot wound that was brought inside.

The U.S. troops followed these people inside and once inside, they were informed by doctors in the hospital that the man that had been driving the car, not with the gunshot wound, was, in fact, Saddam Hussein's brother-in-law.

So U.S. forces have taken him into custody. While he was not necessarily considered to be a high priority target, was not on the now famous deck of cards, he is in U.S. custody and being interrogated for whatever information he may be able to provide -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Someone that could know where Saddam Hussein is, Chris?

PLANTE: Well, it's certainly a distinct possibility. That's certainly what U.S. officials are hoping at this point. Someone close to the family in the hometown of Tikrit, it's not known where Saddam is, might be likely that he's hiding in that area. So, they're hopeful.

PHILLIPS: Chris Plante at the Pentagon. Thanks, Chris.
