MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Sixty-eight years old, and behind bars on charges he held five women -- or held five women, I should say, as sex slaves, but he may never get to trial.
For the latest in the case against John Jamelske we turn now to CNN's Jamie Colby -- hello, Jamie.

JAMIE COLBY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Miles, good afternoon to you. The Syracuse area man charged with holding those five women in an underground bunker against their will has now been indicted on five counts of first degree kidnapping.

Sixty-eight-year-old James Jamelske faces five consecutive maximum penalties of 25 years to life if he is convicted on all of those charges. Jamelske was arrested back in April and charged at the time with kidnapping a 16-year-old girl.

After his arrest, four other women contacted police, saying they'd also been held against their will in a bunker dating back to 1988. Police say all five women alleged they were repeatedly raped by Jamelske during their captivity.

Now Miles, while Jamelske is indicted for first degree kidnapping, under the New York statute, once the grand jury found that each of the women was held for a minimum of 12 hours against their will, the indictment incorporates sexual assault charges. He'll be back in court on June 10. That is when he'll be arraigned, Miles, on all five of the charges -- Miles.

O'BRIEN: Jamie, tell us about the tip that led police to this whole case.

COLBY: Initially, he was arrested on the 16-year-old girl's claim that she had been held against her will. She had actually been with him for months, Miles, and he had told people that she was his girlfriend. But on an outing that they took, she escaped, went to police, and told them that she was being kept in this room, only fed sparingly, and basically that she had been sexually assaulted. That's what she alleged. And then once police held a press conference in connection with that case, all these other women, the four other women, came forward, including a fifth recently, a 50-year-old woman who said she had been held ten years ago -- Miles.

O'BRIEN: CNN's Jamie Colby. That is quite a story. Thank you very much.
