ROBERT HANDA, KTVU CORRESPONDENT: Thanks, Miles. Well, as you know, police are still in the midst of their investigation, but officers describe the mood here as a celebration. Now, as you heard, 9-year-old Jennette Tamayo was found safe last night at an East Palo Alto store, and a suspect is in custody. At a news conference today, the victim's mother spoke and thanked the media.

(through translator): I'm thankful that you helped my daughter and that you didn't leave me alone. You supported me in the worst moment. And I want to tell all mothers not to let your kids walk alone, even if it's a safe street, because when you lose a child, what it feels like to lose a child, I think you feel like you're going to die. That's why all I can say is thank all of you who helped me, supported me, and prayed, and thank God my daughter is with me. And for me, my daughter has been reborn again. Thank you.

HANDA: San Jose Police Deputy Chief Rob Davis said information from the 9-year-old girl was the key to capturing the suspect.

ROB DAVIS, SAN JOSE POLICE: She was able to give us enough detail. We still have a lot of interviewing we need to do with her, but she was giving us enough detail to help us locate a location where we thought we may encounter a suspect and to follow up on that.

CHIEF BILL LANSDOWNE, SAN JOSE POLICE: During the course of the arrest, he did struggle with the officers. He was bitten by a police dog, and assaulted the officers, kicked them several times. And he was taken to the hospital, treated and released. QUESTION: What's his attitude now?
LANSDOWNE: At this particular time, he's uncooperative.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HANDA: Now at this hour, the suspect is still being questioned. He is expected to be booked this afternoon. They've been calling it a stranger abduction, but police say they are now checking out the possibility that the suspect is literally a friend of a friend of one of the children. Reporting live in San Jose, Robert Handa -- Miles, back to you.
O'BRIEN: Robert Handa, thank you very much. We appreciate that.
