JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: And now to a very different White House perspective from former first lady and self-described lightning rod, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Senator Clinton's widely anticipated memoir, "Living History," went on sale early today, and she personally hawked the book in her home state of New York.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

WOODRUFF (voice-over): America, get ready for another Clinton campaign.

SEN. HILLARY CLINTON (D), NEW YORK: May I say that I'm excited about my book being published.

WOODRUFF: The former first lady, current senator and future who knows what hit the trail again today, plugging her memoir and possibly setting the table for a White House bid that she says she's not considering. The focus of phase one of the frenzy, Monica Lewinsky, of course.

CLINTON: He had not told me the whole truth about what the relationship was. And I was -- I was furious. I was dumbfounded. I was, you know, just beside myself.

WOODRUFF: The Monica mentions are dominating this round of Hillary mania. But the book also does cleanup on some of Senator Clinton's more controversial statements, like this one.

CLINTON: I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies.

WOODRUFF: And her oft-quoted claim of a vast right-wing conspiracy. Five years later, Clinton still sounds defiant.

CLINTON: Not really conspiracy, because it's pretty much out in the light of day.

WOODRUFF: Hillary Clinton's political career is flourishing. But does her new book hint at the scope of her ambition? Readers the world over are scouring its pages, searching for even the smallest of clues.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

WOODRUFF: And we will read between the lines of Hillary Clinton's book when we return with a Clinton fan and a one-time Clinton foe. Expect little fireworks in the process.
