HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Israeli forces have killed another Palestinian militant in another attack in Gaza that resulted in massive casualties. A total of seven people are dead, including the militant, his wife and their 3-year-old daughter. For its part, Hamas says yesterday's deadly bus bombing in Jerusalem was just the beginning.
CNN's Mike Hanna standing by in Jerusalem now to tell us the very latest from there.
Hello to you, Mike.
MIKE HANNA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well hello, Heidi.
Violence continues to rage in the region. New Israeli strikes into Gaza. Israeli helicopters fired a number of missiles at targets in Gaza, killing at least seven people. Among them, according to Palestinian sources, two members of the militant Hamas organization.
Also killed in that attack, the family of one of the militants, his wife and two young children. Absolute fury on the Palestinian's side, on these ongoing Israeli operations, and from Hamas itself, the pledge that it will continue striking against Israeli targets.
This is what Hamas has to say:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MAHMOUD AL ZAHAR, HAMAS SPOKESMAN: We have to run an effective army to struggle against everybody. Now, this message should be sent for every Israeli. Your children and your women, your husbands -- everybody is a target now. We have to react, and if they are willing to stop this activity, they should ask Sharon to stop his crime and to withdrawal from our land.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HANNA: Hamas claimed responsibility for the suicide bomb attack in Jerusalem Wednesday, in which 16 people were killed, over 70 people were injured. The bomb was planted by an 18-year-old disguised as an Orthodox Jew, who stepped aboard a bus plowing through Jerusalem's main Jaffa Road and detonated an explosive device. Israel has said it will do everything in its power to completely dismantle Hamas and other militant organizations.
Here's the word from the Israeli government:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
RA'ANAN GISSIN, SHARON SPOKESMAN: We are not happy of what -- taking action in Gaza, but there is a necessity to stop terrorism. Otherwise, it is going to become a major terrorist wave that is going to engulf the whole region and scuttle the road map to peace.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HANNA: The Israeli government and militant organizations, coming head to head. On the sidelines, it appears the Palestinian Authority, which is sharply criticized the Israeli operations in Gaza, as well as the actions of militants in Jerusalem that claimed those Israeli lives. The whereabouts of the road map and its implementation were nowhere to be seen at the moment, as violence continues to defy those intent on continuing that U.S.-backed road map -- Heidi.
COLLINS: All right, Mike Hanna continuing to report for us on the tense situation there, live in Jerusalem. Thanks so much, Mike.
