HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Well, next, now, the crisis in the Middle East. No respite in Israel's war with Hamas. CNN's Kelly Wallace has the details on that.

KELLY WALLACE, CNN INTERNATIONAL CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Israeli defense forces is now commenting, issuing a statement saying that in fact Israeli helicopters did fire on what the Israeli military is calling a terror cell that was about to carry out homemade rocket attacks at Israel. Privately, some Israeli military sources are saying that two men were seen putting these homemade rockets in their car, that they were believed to be on their way to go ahead and fire these homemade rockets at Israeli neighborhoods when the Israeli Apache helicopters did fire on that car.
Palestinian sources are telling us at least one person was killed. We are told it is a member of Hamas' military wing, a 29- year-old man by the name of Foed el Adawi (ph). Don't know anything more about him.
Twenty-five people believe to be injured, according to Palestinian sources. Among them, seven children.
Now, Israeli sources are telling us that this is a step they feel they need to take. They say since June 5, one day after the Aqaba, Jordan summit, there have been 15 firings of homemade rockets at Israeli neighborhoods. There was another one on this day, which severely damaged an Israeli house, put a couple of people in shock. No serious injuries reported.
Israeli officials are telling us that they are going to continue to go after Hamas forcefully. And we have heard from Israeli officials, including Gideon Mayer (ph) -- he is one of the top foreign ministry officials spokespeople. He is saying Hamas is Israel's al Qaeda.
So you see the Israeli government stepping up its attacks, stepping up its rhetoric as well, saying this operation against Hamas is basically in line with the American administration's operations against al Qaeda worldwide.
