KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now we I want to take you live to Maryland with a story developing out of there. Don't know a lot of details. We're going to bring in our Patty Davis. A story -- an angel of death type story, I'm told. Possibly a nurse and how she's been treating her patients, an intensive care unit. What's the story, Patty?
PATTY DAVIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Kyra, a nurse here at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland is under investigation.

Authorities say they are looking into whether or not she helped hasten the death of a patient or patients here in the intensive care unit. The hospital says they first got a report of this on July 9. It came from another nurse in that unit who went to the hospital administrators and said that nurse had some reason to believe that there may be some suspicious activities going on.

And the hospital, though, is not identifying this nurse. They are not giving many details at all.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DEBORAH YANCERE, PRESIDENT, SHADY GROVE HOSPITAL: We cannot talk about specific numbers. I would tell you that we are moment by moment evaluating patients' charts. We're continuing to review. And we will continue to speak with families as we identify a need to do so.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

DAVIS: This nurse has not been charged with any crime at this point, but, she has been suspended with pay.

And we are told by two sources that this is a female nurse at this hospital. She was the hospital, says, taken off duty immediately after this possible criminal activity was uncovered and right now is suspended with pay.

Now, the hospital has asked the Maryland Board of Nursing to immediately suspend the nurse's license. The president of this hospital says in her 20 years at this hospital, she has never recommended that action before. So this is very serious.

The hospital is in contact with a number of families that it believes may have been affected. We're just not getting many details as exactly as to what happened, how it happened or even when it happened -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: All right, Patty Davis. We'll continue to follow the story. Thank you very much.
