KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: An emotional service taking place right now in Bakersfield, California. Burial services for five family members killed last week. This funeral, we are told, possibly thousands of people there. Meanwhile police continue their investigation, which still centers around Vincent Brothers, who was married to one of the victims and father three others -- or, of the three children, rather.
CNN's David Mattingly in Bakersfield now with more -- David.
DAVID MATTINGLY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Kyra, any speculation about whether or not Vincent Brothers would attend today's services ended just a few moments ago. He walked into the arena just a few moments ago. It looks like there's about 2,000 people that have gathered here to remember Vincent's wife, his three small children and his mother- in-law.
We're going to a live picture now. This is what it looks like inside right now. Vincent appeared to be wiping his eyes as he walked past the stage where the closed caskets are on display. That is a site that is causing many people to shed many tears here today. They are all remembering Ernestine, her daughter, Joni, and then the children, Marcus, Lindsay and Marshall.
And according -- we haven't heard a lot about these children. This is something that's really hitting home with so many people in this community. Marcus, who is 4-years-old, is described as a very curious and energetic child who was loving to his parents, sibling and grandmother. Lindsay, his 2-year-old sister, was described as -- because of her special smile she was lovingly thought of as -- quote -- "a little bit of brown sugar" within the church congregation where the family attended. And then little Marshall, just six-week- old, according to the program here, "as little angels would, he returned to heaven after only six short weeks on Earth," something the community is so much trying to come to grips with this entire family found shot and stabbed, murdered in their home here in Bakersfield. It's believed they could have been killed shortly after returning from church services last Sunday.
And, of course, since then the only named suspect is Vincent Brothers, the father of the children. And at this point there is a certain amount of mixed emotions as people come into the arena. They're here in full sorrow because of the loss of the family. But at the same time, because there has been so few answers in this case, there is still that element of suspicion about Vincent Brother, even though police were in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend checking out his alibi. No word on yet on what they have found, but his lawyer says his alibi is solid.
But today is a day for the family and to remember their loss -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: No doubt they will. David Mattingly, thank you.
