KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Also, another story developing right now. We are told there possibly may be a verdict in the alleged police beating in Englewood, California, 5:00 p.m. Eastern time, we're hearing. We're going to go to Dan Lothian in our Los Angeles bureau. Dan, what can you tell us?
DAN LOTHIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Kyra, the jury was -- began deliberating this morning at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time. This is the fourth day of jury deliberations and we are told now they have reached a verdict at 9:35. Roughly a half hour after they began deliberations this morning, they did reach a verdict. That verdict, expected to be read at 2:00 this afternoon, Pacific time, 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.

This of course is that videotape beating case that was captured on home video, a little more than a year ago where Officer Jeremy Morse, then with the Englewood Police Department, was seen punching and then slamming then 16-year-old Donovan Jackson on to the back end of a squad car. A fellow officer at the time, ex-partner Bijan Darvish, was also charged. He was charged with filing a false police report, Morse charged with assault under the color of authority.

Now, this case has been very controversial, especially in the Englewood community where a lot of people have been concerned that whatever the verdict might be, if people did not think the verdict was a fair verdict, that there would be unrest over the past few weeks. There has been a call from community leaders for calm.

You're taking a look at the courtroom where the jury will be returning this afternoon around 2:00 Pacific time, 5:00 Eastern time, with the verdict. Obviously, we do not know what that verdict is. But when the verdict comes in, we will bring that to you.

Now a couple of things. The jury, yesterday, there was a hearing held, the defendants were brought back into court, because the jury had some questions about their jury instructions with regard to the use of force. They had three particular questions, the judge dealt with them and then they went back to deliberations.

One other time, last week, the jury also asked for some readback of testimony. This was testimony from a prosecution witness in the use of force. They wanted to get more clarification on that testimony, wanted to have it read back to them, that was done.

So, once again, a verdict expected, 2:00 Pacific time, 5:00 Eastern time. Back to you, Kyra.

PHILLIPS: And we'll have it here live. Dan Lothian, thank you so much.
