MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, they saw some of the fiercest fighting on the frontlines in Iraq, and today, hundreds of members of the 3rd Infantry Division are back home in the loving arms of their friends and family.
CNN's Brian Cabell has been at Fort Stewart, Georgia, scene of those homecoming. He's here to share a few of them with us.
Hello, Brian.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
BRIAN CABELL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Fort Stewart has become a very busy place. Families arriving from all over the country, soldiers arriving back from Iraq. Twenty-five hundred soldiers arriving here in a period of five days.
The 3rd I.D. has been in Iraq for a long time, some of them for up to 11 months. They've undergone some very fierce fighting. Families have been back here very anxious, but finally that weight is just about over.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What are you going to do when he gets here?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I'm going to run and give him a big old hug. And then I don't know. I just want to hold him in my arms.
CABELL: There have been rumblings, of course, of morale problems within the 3rd I.D. That was primarily because their return was delayed any number of times. Originally, they were supposed to come back in June, then July, then August, then September. But finally now they are starting to come back, coming back and hoping to resume their normal lives with their families.
I'm Brian Cabell, CNN, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
