MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Now many of you have heard the reality television show, "Who Wants to Marry My Dad?" Have you seen that one?
KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: I hate to admit it. I sort of peeped in on it.

(LAUGHTER)

PHILLIPS: Sort of embarrassing. The stuff draws you.

O'BRIEN: Caught you!

PHILLIPS: I ain't going to lie. You know, what can I tell you? I just had to see what it was like.

Well, a Massachusetts...

O'BRIEN: Research.

PHILLIPS: Beautiful family. Beautiful family.

O'BRIEN: It's research.

PHILLIPS: A Massachusetts woman is now trying to marry off her 22-year-old daughter. Not on television, though, but in her frontyard.

Lynn Joliker (ph) from CNN affiliate WCBB reports the men are lining up.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hi.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hello.

LYNN JOLIKER, WCBB CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): No million dollar prize, no roses for the chosen ons. Just a mom trying to marry off her daughter.

DONNA WOOD, MOTHER: I was hoping she found someone on her own. But, oh, boy that didn't work.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Is that your Harley?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, it is.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Well, I'm going to go check it out.

JOLIKER: The single one searching for a soul mate, 22-year-old Kim Devlin (ph) of Southbridge. The contestants, 10 guys hoping to make the right first impression. Everyone from Harley hobbyist to military man.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: might get voted off the island today. I don't know.

JOLIKER: With cameras following their every move.

DOT LESNIEWSKI, NEIGHBOR: With all the reality shows on TV, this isn't really a big surprise.

JOLIKER: Kim's mother, Donna Wood, came up with the contest idea and required possible suitors to show up with pictures, references and letters.

WOOD: Oh, this is so sweet.

JOLIKER: Then face a grilling by committee.

WOOD: You looking for marriage?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

WOOD: You looking to settle down?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes. I'm looking to be happy.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Would it be OK with you if I ate breakfast every morning with my dog like I do?

CHRISTOPHER CLANCEY, SOUTHBRIDGE RESIDENT: I haven't found anybody and there's this girl that's good hearted and everything, so I decided to give it a chance.

WILLIAM FASSETT, WORCESTER RESIDENT: I think it's easier to talk to the family than it is to go to a club and meet a girl and have nothing to say.

JOLIKER: The committee will spend the next five weeks narrowing down the pool looking for Mr. Right for the young nanny and single mom.

RICKY RICCI, BRIMFIELD RESIDENT: Basically I hear, basically it's for him. He's a good guy, you know, but I still hope I win because, you know, beating him is always nice.

JOLIKER: Welcome to the dating game, 21st Century style.

In Southbridge, Lynn Joliker, News Center 5. (END VIDEOTAPE)

O'BRIEN: Is it possible we just hit rock bottom? Is that -- should we get a little news alert out on that? Rock bottom has been struck.

PHILLIPS: A reflection of our society, what have we come to. See, we're sucker, too. We ran the story.

O'BRIEN: We ran the story and here we are right there participating in the whole thing. We are guilty as charged.
