Judge to Decide Whether to Make Kobe Bryant Documents Public

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now the Kobe Bryant sexual assault case. A ruling is expected that could make part of the prosecution's case public.
Our Gary Tuchman has the latest now from Eagle County, Colorado.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
GARY TUCHMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: The judge in the Kobe Bryant case says he will likely decide this Thursday or Friday whether to unseal some or all of the court files in this case.
Earlier, Judge Frederick Gannett said he would decide early this week. Now he says he's swamped and says the decision will likely come on Thursday or Friday.
Now, the reason it would be a significant decision, if he decides to unseal some or all the files it would be the first time we would get a look at what the prosecution says is the evidence against the Los Angeles Lakers superstar.
Also, CNN has acquired letters that have been sent by members of the public to the judge. The reason this is significant is because authorities are already investigating threatening phone calls and letters to the district attorney here in Eagle County, Colorado.
And some of these letters are slightly aggressive, at the very least. One letter from somebody in New York State to the judge says ,quote, "I will have no mercy on you if this man goes to prison. I am losing my cool; Kobe is innocent."
Another letter, quote, "History will be your judge. Do not destroy Kobe Bean Bryant."
And another letter from someone against Kobe Bryant says to the judge, quote, "God is no doubt fed up with all this idolatry and will likely have another September 11."
As you can see, there's a lot of passion involved in this case.
