JOHN KING, CNN ANCHOR: The recall campaign, of course, is serious business, but the road to Election Day has undeniably taken on a circus atmosphere at times, especially when certain candidates are in the spotlight.
Here's CNN's Miguel Marquez.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You are a naughty woman.

MIGUEL MARQUEZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Prepare yourself. The circus called the California recall is getting a bigger tent. It's a game show marrying the curiosities of the California recall with the flash of Hollywood.

(on camera): We've heard about the blurring of the lines between entertainment and politics. And now...

(CROSSTALK)

KENNEDY, GAME SHOW HOST: They're going to be absolutely illegible after this.

MARQUEZ (voice-over): Two minor candidates, matching their minor celebrity status, have signed on. And the Game Show Network is looking for three more candidates who are bona fide and able-bodied candidates for California governor.

MARY CAREY, CALIFORNIA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE: I'm just going to let everyone see how much fun I would be as governor by jumping up and down.

(LAUGHTER)

MARQUEZ: But it's not all about jumping up and down. Contestants will also have to know the issues.

KENNEDY: Who is the current secretary of state? Mary?

CAREY: Kevin Shelley, A.

KENNEDY: That is correct.

GARY COLEMAN, CALIFORNIA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE: I have ideas for alleviating all that damn traffic that we all have to drive through every day. KENNEDY: Language, Gary.

COLEMAN: Oh, sorry. Pardon me.

KENNEDY: Go ahead.

COLEMAN: I didn't know it was a family show.

MARQUEZ: Like a typical candidate, Coleman appeals to family values. It's just that the definitions of family and values are in a galaxy far, far away.

(on camera): If you were a political animal, what sort of animal would you be?

CAREY: I'd be a Pomeranian, because Pomeranians are cute and cuddly, but at the same time they're very ferocious. Like, I have a Pomeranian and she looks so cute. And when she meets new people, she's like, "Rrrr."

RICH CRONIN, PRESIDENT, GAME SHOW NETWORK: My hope is that this will be so popular that we'll be doing, in a short time, "Who Wants to be Governor of Idaho?" and then "Who Wants to be Governor of Mississippi?"

MARQUEZ (voice-over): Idaho? Mississippi? Your thoughts?

Miguel Marquez, CNN, Los Angeles.
