MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Let's go now to developments in the Kobe Bryant case. We could find out today whether a Colorado judge will grant a media request to unseal documents in the case.
CNN's Gary Tuchman joining us from Eagle, Colorado, with the latest from there.
When are we going to here, Gary?
GARY TUCHMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Miles, the judge has told me a short time ago that he's actually made the decision, but first he's going to let prosecutors know what the decision is. Then he'll let defense attorneys know what the decision is, and then he will let CNN know what the decision is.
And what the judge has decided is whether or not to unseal court files in this case, including the arrest warrant. If we do get a look at this arrest warrant, it would be the first official look at what prosecutors say the evidence against the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is.
Now, the judge told me that it was an easy decision within a complicated process. And that complicated process may be an understatement, because what we have here is a situation where the prosecutors and Kobe Bryant's defense attorneys say they want this all to remain under seal. They say this will infringe with Kobe Bryant's right to a fair trial.
However, news media attorneys, including CNN's attorneys, say this is public information; this information should be released. And besides the rumors that have been swirling around, absent any official information, may hurt Kobe Bryant more than official, accurate allegations being released by the judge.
The judge says he has made the decision. If he decides to release some or all of these court files, we may not see them for a few days still, because he does tell us he will give the prosecutors and the defense attorneys a chance to appeal his decision before we get the files to read to you.
Back to you, Miles.
O'BRIEN: CNN'S Gary Tuchman, we'll check in with you the moment you hear. Thank you very much.
