KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now a new development in the death of a defrocked priest. It involves money and another inmate, in addition to the one who allegedly killed John Geoghan.
CNN's Jason Carroll is on this story for us.

Jason, what have you found out?

JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: And, Kyra, a source close to the investigation into the death of John Geoghan says another inmate may have offered money to the prisoner who confessed to killing the former priest. Joseph Druce told the prosecutors he beat and then strangled Geoghan while in prison. The source said Druce told a fellow inmate another prisoner, described as a powerful gang member, offered him money to kill Geoghan. The inmate who Druce spoke to about the alleged offer is being interviewed today by attorneys from the Massachusetts Correctional Legal Services. That's an advocacy organization for prisoners. The Worster district attorney says Druce appears to be the single defendant, but he added yesterday as to whether or not anyone else was involved, we will be looking into that. State officials said Monday they would conduct two separate investigations into Geoghan's death, and Geoghan's murder raised questions about guy Geoghan, who was in protective custody at his own request, was housed just a few cells away from Druce, who was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for killing a gay man -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Jason Carroll, thank you.
