London Tube Halted by Rush Hour Power Outage

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Just to up date you on a developing story that we're following out of London, England.
Now, Reuters is saying the power is back on. We have not confirmed that yet but it's a story we have been talking about that 60 percent of the tube service had been halted. A number of that trains after a massive power outages surged through parts of the capitol in southeast England.

We're not sure how wide spread the outages were or are. We can tell you that a majority of services were shut down in central London. London Underground says its problems caused by failures on the national power grid. So whether the power is back on or is still off, nonetheless it was a nightmare for people living in London today.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Were there many problems down there?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No. I mean the train driver he was really calm, actually. He kept us informed all the way through. Help came. It didn't take too long actually. Everyone was very calm down there. They handled it very well. We don't know where we sort of go here. They're basically telling everyone to come out, but not how we can get home from here.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Were you stuck in a station or in the tunnel?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I actually was stuck in the tunnel. What they tried to do is help was supposed to come to us, but help didn't arrive. So then the driver had to back up to the station and (UNINTELLIGIBLE) the train. And then along the tunnel into (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

PHILLIPS: All right, we'll continue to follow that story out of London and try to confirm to you if, indeed those power outages are still taking place or if the lights are back on.

But nonetheless it was tough for those in London dealing with the massive outages causing 60 percent of the tube service to halt at the height of rush hour. We'll follow that story out of London, England.
