MTV Video Music Awards Airs Tonight

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: New York's Radio City Music Hall is going to be rockin', rapping and hip hoppin' tonight with the much- anticipated MTV Video Music Awards. The live show begins at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
CNN's Susan Hendricks has a preview.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
SUSAN HENDRICKS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): It's a night that will bring together exes, love birds and the new Fab Five.
But at this year's MTV's Music Video Awards (sic), a 71-year-old highway man may steal the show, and the moonmen. Johnny Cash's "Hurt" video up for six awards. That will pit him against some of today's hottest younger artist.
It will be Cash versus 50 Cent, and Justin Timberlake, among others, for "Best Video of the Year."
Then it's Cash against John Mayer and some other pop stars for "Best Male Video."
He'll even spar with J. Lo, some rockers and a rapper for the "Best Art Direction in a Video".
Of course, the divas will have their day. Christina, Missy, J.Lo, Avril and Beyonce are all up for the 'Best Female Video" award.
The rock bands will battle. Linkin Park and Metallica among those up for the "Best Rock Video" award.
The rap emcees will find out if their videos are "Beautiful" and "Hot" enough to claim the "Best Hip-Hop Video" award, while an "American Idol" will learn if she can win the "Best New Artist in a Video" award and the hearts of MTV fans for the "Viewer's Choice Award."
And guess who's back? Not him -- him, funnyman Chris Rock. The caustic comedian returns as host.
