KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Up first, a breaking story out of Gaza -- Matthew Chance.
MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Kyra, thank you very much. Kyra, thank you very much. We're having a few audio problems here.
But let me bring you up on date these breaking developments as of the Gaza Strip here. We're hearing now from eyewitnesses and Palestinian officials that there has been an Israeli helicopter strike against a car in a residential area in the southern Gaza city of Hanunis (ph). We understand from those sources as a stage that at least from one person has been killed and he has been identified to us by Palestinian officials as Hamdi Kadah, a senior figure in the military wing of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, (UNINTELLIGIBLE) al-Kasam (ph).
We understand also from these initial reports that we're getting through to us here in Gaza City that at least three other people have been injured. It's not clear at this stage whether these were people who were also in the car and may have been deliberately targeted by the Israeli -- what we believe to be an Israeli helicopter gunship at this stage or whether they were people simply standing near the location where this attack took place.
What we can tell you, though, is that over the course of the past week, there have been repeated attacks by the Israeli military forces and a renewal of their policy of assassination against leading figures in the Hamas militant group. Eight people now have been confirmed from Hamas having been killed by the Israelis in the past week alone -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: Matthew Chance via videophone from the Gaza Strip. We'll continue to follow that story. Thank you.
