KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Flash flooding in Kansas turned frightening and deadly for motorists this weekend.
Joe Sheeran with CNN affiliate KWCH has more on that.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What was going through my mind was not to get in so big of a fear that I couldn't drive.

JOE SHEERAN, REPORTER, KWCH-TV (voice-over): With driving rain pounding Gina King's windshield for nearly an hour and a half, she knew this stretch of the turnpike would be one of the toughest rides of her life.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You couldn't pull off on the side of the road. There was no hotels, there was no gas stations. So we knew he we had to keep going, and...

SHEERAN: Like many other drivers, she forged ahead and made it through the flood.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You're in prayer for your life. And so we say we thank God that we're alive.

SHEERAN: Not everyone was as fortunate. Gushing water took this van off the road. It was carrying a family from Liberty. The father made it out OK, but his four children died. Their mother is still missing.

At least seven search dogs and helicopters spent the day looking for the woman and another man from Fort Worth, Texas. They had no luck.

Crews found his Jeep and others nearly a mile away from the road.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: As we got back, and we heard that they had closed the interstate, you know, again, I wanted those people to be OK. And then I was thankful that we had gone ahead and listened to what those guys had said, and turned around.
