KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: The recall campaigns kick into high gear today in California. Governor Gray Davis is appearing at a Labor Day mass in Los Angeles. His opponents are crisscrossing the state. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to appear at this hour at the state fair in Sacramento. We get the latest now on the recall campaign from our Rusty Dornin who is at the fairgrounds. Hi, Rusty.
RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Kyra. Well, he has appeared. He arrived a just few moments ago to a very enthusiastic crowd here in Sacramento, at the California State Fair. Now, what he's doing right now, he's going to be registering people to vote here in California outside the fairgrounds and then he will go inside, do a little tour, and a meet and greet. Now, at neither place is he scheduled to give any kind of speech. He's not allowed to give a speech inside the fairground. We're not sure if he's going to answer any questions, either here or while he is doing the tour. Now, you can hear the enthusiasm. Now, this is the first time -- this is the first time --

Mr. Schwarzenegger, you're live on CNN. Would you like to tell us if you are going to be at the debates or why you are only going to do one of the debates?

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER (R), CALIFORNIA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE: Oh, I am looking forward to the debate. It is going to be great for the California broadcasters, yes. It is going to be a fantastic debate.

DORNIN: Are you not going to do any of the other debates? Sir...

SCHWARZENEGGER: We are going to do one great debate. You can all bring out all the different issues. OK. Yes.

How are you? Don't push the lady. She's from CNN.

DORNIN: That is actually one of the questions, of course, he's being criticized about, is the fact that he is doing only one of the debates. There's three debates actually scheduled. One of them is going to be on Wednesday night. He's also being criticized by the Democratic rival for accepting campaign donations when he said he wouldn't.

And also, for receiving anti-immigration stamps, and that's because some of his supporters are -- backed Proposition 187 which was denied services to illegal immigrants here in California. Also receiving some criticism from the Republicans for saying that he's refused so far to come out and give his stance on no tax issues. So he's receiving some criticism. Hasn't said anything for the past three days, since his appearance in the central valley last week and, of course, surfacing of the interview in 1977 with "Oui" magazine.

Some of the other candidates, Governor Davis was in L.A. this morning. He's coming up to northern California, as is the lieutenant governor. They are both going to be appearing at a same event, although they are not appearing together. So Bustamante still ahead in the polls here in California. But, obviously, Arnold Schwarzenegger has got a lot of fans here at the California State Fair in Sacramento -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Rusty Dornin, you got to love live television there. Way to chase down the Terminator. Good job. Thank you.
