JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: We're live at the Supreme Court, but our subject is California and a special appearance in the recall campaign. Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife, Maria Shriver, makes her first solo venture on the trail today. As always, CNN's Bob Franken is with us to tell us what's going on.
Bob, what is she saying?

BOB FRANKEN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Well, she's going to be at a Wal-Mart in the Sacramento area in what is ostensibly a voter registration drive. She's going to be saying, when you register, vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger who happens to be her husband.

Now, she has been making more and more appearances of late. This was her at an event on Friday at the opening of a campaign headquarters. She's now stepping out on her own. She, of course, would be somebody who would be expected to appeal to those who are Democrats since, of course, her lineage is entirely Democrat, although she married, of course, the Republican, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Now, the big news, however, may come tomorrow morning with the release of the first poll in several weeks, the first credible poll. The Field Poll will be coming out. The last time there was a Field Poll was before Bill Simon, the conservative Republican, had pulled out of the race. And there is going to be a considerable bit of attention paid to whether there has been any movement, whether Gray Davis has recovered any ground with his opposition to the recall so he can keep work, and of course to find out what is the margin between Schwarzenegger and Cruz Bustamante as recall alternatives.

Those are the two who, of course, are the frontrunners. That is going to be a poll that is expected tomorrow morning.

As for Gray Davis, he is continuing his campaign with a town meeting. He is also trying to make sure that there is no damage from his comment about Schwarzenegger over the weekend, an off-hand comment where he said that the people of California need somebody who can pronounce the name of the state. And Schwarzenegger is also doing a town meeting, this one in Orange County -- Judy.

WOODRUFF: And we see that Gray Davis has taken a little heat over that as well. All right. Bob Franken, we'll be catching up with you regularly between now and Election Day.
