KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: It's not getting much better in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. That's where our poor Sean Callebs has now taken the post, where Brian Cabell once stood. He's probably rinsing out right now.
Sean -- obviously winds picking up, a lot more wet than we saw before. How're you hanging in there, pal?
SEAN CALLEBS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Oh, man, it is punishing. It is punishing. I'm trying to lose my voice as well.
This wind has really picked up, I think, within the last hour or so. It is just blowing sideways, just creating a tremendous sting as it hits you.
There are all kinds of problems as well. Virtually everybody is without power in this area (UNINTELLIGIBLE) pretty much the same all the way up.
I spoke with a lady who lives in Cape Hatteras a short while ago. She has a house right on the beach, and says she is concerned (UNINTELLIGIBLE) is just completely wiped out.
If you look around, you can see signs have been blown down over there. A large fence has been blown out.
The big concern now, these power lines are becoming completely (UNINTELLIGIBLE) and cause all kinds of problems. There are missiles basically flying through the air. I saw a small satellite dish a short while ago.
And last I heard, the eye of the hurricane had passed over. We're on the back end of it now. So, these conditions, Kyra, are going to continue to last.
PHILLIPS: We've seen a bit of damage there at the Ramada Inn kind of close to where you are, the Holiday Inn. What's the extent of the damage? Is it just parts of some of the buildings, or is it getting more intense?
CALLEBS: The damage is getting extensive to the hotel we're. A couple of (UNINTELLIGIBLE) and plywood and stucco completely blown out. Down the road, another hotel is in danger of collapsing because of erosion, and that is a huge concern, because this hurricane is coming ashore at high tide. So, not only are you going to have the water level that's about eight feet higher than normal, but these punishing waves are coming in as well.
So, there is concern that these small barrier islands will get flooded in a big way.
PHILLIPS: All right, our Sean Callebs not only fighting the elements there, but fighting a cold, losing his voice. I see a few days off coming up, Sean. Thank you so much.
