MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: While the East Coast residents endure Isabel, the West Coast continues to track the political storm known as "hurricane recall."
KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Let's bring in our senior political correspondent Candy Crowley with a recall update from Los Angeles. Some other news, of course, going on.

Hi -- Candy.

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN SR. POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT: Hi. Welcome to sunny California. Sorry.

They're still on hold out here, while the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decides whether to review a decision made by a panel of three of its members, which would delay the October 7 recall vote, until they get rid of those pesky punch card voting machines. A decision might come today, but then again, it might not.

So, while the court is deciding whether to decide, the various campaigns are debating the debate. They had another debate last night. Arnold Schwarzenegger preferred a one-on-one with Larry King, but in absentia, he took the brunt of the blows from the other candidates. Schwarzenegger is going to one debate next week. The questions had been sent to the candidates in advance.

Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante, the Democrat who is running against the recall but for himself as an alternative, says that's pretty much like taking a home test and he's leading a revolt. What he would like to do is to have a debate outside the same place that this other debate is scheduled, and then have the media choose either to do that or to go in and see the debate, which Arnold will attend.

So, the Schwarzenegger campaign says, look, we asked for this to be a free-wheeling debate, but the sponsors declined. And in response to Bustamante, they say, if Cruz Bustamante wants to stand in the parking lot on the hood of a car with a bull horn, that's his prerogative, but we'll be there to have an adult discussion.

But I can tell you, some of the other candidates, pretty much known as the "also runnings," think the boycott has some possibilities. And after all, you all, what's call without a little drama?

That's where we are here -- Kyra and Miles. O'BRIEN: Wow! Drama is what it's all about right there in Tinseltown. All right, thank you very much, Candy Crowley. We appreciate you giving us that report from hazy southern California.
