(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
PAUL NAVE, CALIFORNIA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE: My name is Paul Nave. And I'm a former world boxing champion, businessman, developer and investor.
The first thing I would do is, I would cut as much government bureaucracy as feasibly possible. I would review all state agencies and departments and eliminate overspending. And, in the end, I think the budget deficit comes down to two options, raise taxes or cut spending. And I'm ready to cut.
I'm realistic. I know I'm a long shot. But I've been a long shot before and won a world title. And my commitment to the people of California is, I'm give them my all. And if I don't win, I'll be back, too.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: Well, from former boxers to medical doctors, the California recall candidates are the very definition of political diversity.
Here now, CNN's Thelma Gutierrez with another candidate snapshot.

VIP BHOLA (R), CALIFORNIA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE: Hi. My name is Vip Bhola. I'm running for California of governor. I believe that the government is out of control right now.
THELMA GUTIERREZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Vip Bhola is a 36-year-old trial attorney.
BHOLA: Good morning, Your Honor. Vip Bhola appearing on the behalf of the plaintiff.
GUTIERREZ: He is the son of immigrants Latta (ph) and Rob (ph) Bhola.
BHOLA: My mother and father are from India. They came here from New Delhi.
One day, Robert had a party.
GUTIERREZ: And he is a husband and father of two, a Republican running for governor. BHOLA: I think this process is the epitome of the democratic process. For doors to be open to candidates like myself and like the 135 others who are running is a tremendous statement about the process being open to the people. And I think it's great. I love it.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We're going to continue this matter for two weeks.
GUTIERREZ: Bhola says, as governor, he would have a unique understanding of immigrant issues.
BHOLA: Certainly, we need to treat undocumented, as well as undocumented immigrants, with respect, with kindness and dignity.
GUTIERREZ: Bhola has learned, it's not easy being an outsider.
BHOLA: I'm not in a debate, though I think that I would do well in a debate. I'm not allowed to get out and have an exchange of ideas with the front-runners, though I think that would be very enlightening to the people. And that's been very frustrating to me in this process.
GUTIERREZ: Bhola's parents say they're not surprised their son became an attorney, but they never could have imagined he would one day run for governor.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'll tell you, our bags are packed to move to Sacramento. I hope he gets elected and we're moving there.
BHOLA: This is the penultimate position that an immigrant can take, to become a part of the political process, run for governor, and participate in this very, very direct way.
GUTIERREZ: Thelma Gutierrez, CNN, Los Angeles.
