KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Blasts in Baghdad. Within minutes of each other, insurgents hurled rockets at three targets within Baghdad. The donkey cart launches were aimed at the Iraq oil ministry and two Baghdad hotels.
CNN's Matthew Chance is in Baghdad with the latest -- Matthew.
MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Thanks, Kyra.
And those rockets slamming into those three high-profile buildings in the center of the Iraqi capital, including the Palestine Hotel, the main, heavily-guarded hotel, in the center of the city, where of course, we at CNN and other media organizations are based out of. At about 7:20 this morning here, local time, seven or eight rockets slammed into the side of the building, devastating some of the rooms inside. Fortunately, only one person was injured. He was injured, being treated for those injured. The other two targets that were hit, the Sheraton Hotel, just across the road from Palestine, which houses the rest of what's left of the international community here in the Iraqi capital. And the Iraqi oil ministry, symbolic, high-profile targets, which U.S., coalition officials, say they were expecting would be hit, at some point, at one of the coalition military spokesman here in Baghdad is Brigadier General Mark Kimmett. Here's what he had to say earlier.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BRIG. GEN. MARK KIMMETT: These were spectacular attacks. Clearly, the enemy's been taking a look at our operations and realized that we are clamping down. They realize they can't attack us and detect us in a conventional sense. What they're trying to do is break our will, trying to capture the headlines.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
CHANCE: One of the things that has been in the headlines of course is Operation Iron Hammer. The U.S. military's attempt to crack down on the insurgents, to try and prevent them from carrying out these kind of attacks. Clearly there is a message in these simultaneous rocket strikes against these billings, that not only are these insurgents, whoever they are, able to effectively plan these attack, but also, more importantly, to carry them out as well, despite the heavy security here -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: Matthew Chance live from Baghdad. Thank you.
