KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: This just in to CNN. The -- coming out of Washington, right now, we're being told about a terror warning. National security correspondent David Ensor bringing the latest to us. David, What do you know?
DAVID ENSOR, CNN NATIONAL SECURITY CORRESPONDENT: Kyra, the U.S. government is warning that al Qaeda may attack again soon, against U.S. interests, most likely overseas. This comes following a warning from intelligence officials circulated Thursday earning among federal agencies.
We understand an advisory is to be sent out to state and local law enforcement agencies some time today which will speak of al Qaeda's continued desire to plot or plan terrorist attacks with an emphasis on U.S. interests abroad.
Now, law enforcement officials say they understand there is probably not going to be any change in the current color-coded threat level which as most know is at the Yellow level which signifies an elevated risk.
But a senior U.S. official told me that because of the recent attacks in Turkey and Saudi Arabia and because U.S. intelligence is picking up increased chatter among potential terrorists, in his view, this warning was inevitable.
The official told me there is particular concern about the remaining days of Ramadan, the Muslim holiday which ends early next week -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: Do we know if this is going to affect international travel?
ENSOR: No word on whether it will affect travel or not. Obviously this is an advisory intended to reach Americans who are traveling abroad and others who might be concerned about this and warn them that there may be an elevated risk level at least for a few more days -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: David Ensor, thank you.
