Rap and R&B Dominate Grammy Nominations

MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, the musical maestros of 2003 have been named. The nominations for the 46th annual Grammy Awards were read today. And rap and R&B are dominating the nominees.
CNN's Julie Cevene live from Beverly Hills with more on all this -- hello, Julie.
JULIE CEVENE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Miles.
Well, no real front-runner this year. The nominations were fairly evenly spread, with six being the most anyone took home. Beyonce, OutKast, and Jay-Z were among those with the most Grammy nods.
(voice-over): Album of the year will be a battle between rap, rock, pop and hip-hop, with Missy Elliott, White Stripes, Justin Timberlake, Evanescence, and OutKast getting Grammy nods.
OutKast's "Hey Ya!" is also up for best record of the year, along with Beyonce's "Crazy in Love," Coldplay's "Clock," "Where Is the Love?" by the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake, Eminem's "Lose Yourself." Sarah McLachlan, who was also nominated this year, read the names for the best new artist category.
SARAH MCLACHLAN, MUSICIAN: The nominees are of Evanescence, 50 Cent, Fountains of Wayne, Heather Headley, Sean Paul.
CABELL: Sting, Justin Timberlake, Michael McDonald, George Harrison and Warren Zevon are all contenders in the best male pop vocal performance category. Pop star Jason Mraz could out the nominees for best female pop vocal performance?
JASON MRAZ, MUSICIAN: Christina Aguilera for "Beautiful," Kelly Clarkson for "Miss Independent," Dido for "White Flag," Avril Lavigne for "I'm With You," and Sarah McLachlan for "Fallen."
