MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas inside the White House. Today, the first lady opened the doors of the people's house, to the media, at least. It was quite a sight.
Here's a guided tour.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
LAURA BUSH, FIRST LADY: We're here at the really magnificent gingerbread house. This is always spectacular every year that Roland has done it, which has been for, what, 28 years or something?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Twenty-five years.
BUSH: Twenty-five years.
And this year, when you look at it, you'll see all of these -- your favorite storybook characters here under the tree, under the house, like "Cat in the Hat." Here's the entrance to "The Secret Garden" right here. That was also one of my favorite books. There's, of course, the big bad Wolf right around the corner, with Red Riding Hood coming in.
We decided to do the tea party for the dining room centerpiece. We thought that would be really fun. And, of course, there are so many characters that we could include in the tea party, including, of course, : Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and the Queen of Hearts and Alice and the rabbit and Mad Hatter. And I think she did such a really magnificent job building all of these papier-mache dolls to represent the figures that are here on this table, but that are also all over the White House on all the mantles.
This is also, of course, the most fabulous part of all the decorating here. This is our big, beautiful tree from Wisconsin, from Christmas tree growers from Wisconsin. These were the ornaments that were on the Bushes' Christmas tree when president George H.W. Bush was president. We surrounded the bottom of the tree with books, some of them written by my really good friends.
But I like this. I like the feeling of friendship and warmth that this part of the White House shows.
