MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: The South is on the lookout for a suspected kidnapper and killer from northwest Georgia; 31-year-old Jerry William Jones is believed to have shot and killed three adults and strangled his own infant daughter, before taking off with two other daughters and his former stepdaughter.
CNN's Martin Savidge joins us now from Ranger, Georgia, with the latest.

MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: State and local authorities are treating this as a twofold investigation.
They say, No. 1, they're looking into the murders of four people in two homes located behind us here, among the dead, a 10-month-old child. Police investigators say that it was a violent crime scene, that a number of the victims had suffered multiple gunshots, and that it appears the infant had been strangled.
The second part of this investigation, trying to bring about the safe return of three children believed to have been kidnapped by the murder suspect. They range in age from 10, 4 and 3. And authorities say they are gravely concerned about the welfare of those children.
This all began yesterday when authorities received a phone call from the children's mother. She's out of town. She had received a phone call from the suspect, her estranged husband. He had called her to say what he had done, confessing to the crimes and saying that he had the three other children and would threaten to kill those children if she went to authorities.
Authorities have been alerted, hence, why there is this very strong concern. And the Amber Alert that has been out in Georgia is now being expanded to neighboring states, as authorities here are requesting the help of the FBI and the U.S. Marshal Service. The suspect is identified as 31-year-old Jerry Jones. He does have a history of run-in with the police before.
The sheriff of Gordon County, Jerry Davis, takes this all very personally.
JERRY DAVIS, GORDON COUNTY SHERIFF: We're looking for this man right here. I've had him in the Gordon County jail for traffic violations. I need him back in the jail for murder. The way that he's treated these people, I want him bad. SAVIDGE: Authorities say they do not know the whereabouts of the suspect, Jerry Jones, at this particular time. He is said to be driving in a 1991 maroon and tan Ford Explorer. They say that he has not had contact with any other family members. Some relatives believe he may be headed south to Florida.
