MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: On to the situation on the ground in Iraq, a crowded mosque was the scene of a deadly bombing today. CNN's Satinder Bindra is there. He joins us live now with more on that -- Satinder.
SATINDER BINDRA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Miles, this bombing took place at a Shi'ite mosque in Baqubah which 40 miles or 65 kilometers north of Baghdad.

We have some details about this bombing. Coalition sources telling us this bomb was placed inside a propane gas tank cylinder, which was strapped to the end of a bicycle.

Now, this bicycle was wheeled by a suicide bomber to the front gates of the mosque. This suicide bomber asked for permission to get inside. He was denied permission, and that's when he detonated the bomb. The force of the explosion killed four Iraqi worshipers. Another 35 were injured.

Now the force of this blast also killed the suicide bomber. We have video footage from the scene just after the bomb. It shows a car in flames, it shows people running about in confusion, people running about in every direction.

Now, it's still not clear what the motivation of this bomber was, and no group has claimed responsibility for this bombing.

Meanwhile, also in the past 24 hours, soldiers with the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division launched a series of raids in Tikrit. Tikrit, of course, the hometown of Saddam Hussein. These soldiers say they took into custody some 12 suspected hardcore insurgent fighters.

Now this raid in Tikrit comes just a few hours after a U.S. helicopter was downed just west of Baghdad in Fallujah. All nine U.S. servicemen on board that helicopter were killed. Miles, back to you.

O'BRIEN: Satinder Bindra live in Baghdad, thank you very much.
