CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: A new made-for-TV movie provides a look behind the scenes with rock 'n' roll legend Paul McCartney. A film crew followed the former Beatle and his band for 14 weeks during their Back in the U.S. tour. The movie airs tonight, and Paul McCartney joins us this morning.
Good morning. Good to see you.
PAUL MCCARTNEY, SINGER: Good morning, CNN. How are you?
LIN: This is described as a rock 'n' road movie. I'm curious, what is your description of it, because it almost looks like home movies.
MCCARTNEY: Mine would be a special special. It's very heartwarming. We had such good will on this tour from the audiences, within the band and within all the people on our team that it just captures that sort of warmth and a lot of emotion. It was a very special thing. So that would be my description.
LIN: What do you think people are going to see in this film that they typically don't see when you go behind the scenes?
MCCARTNEY: Well, you know, normally we don't allow cameras kind of in my dressing room while I'm getting ready for the show or on the airplanes as we're traveling, and maybe having a party after the show, in the limos.
So you get a lot of the day-to-day feel. The camera crew just followed me around and I said to them, look, I'm just going to ignore you. And so it was great, they became friends, and I trusted them. So you get a lot of intimate footage.
LIN: And they caught some great moments between you and your wife Heather. You guys are pretty playful.
MCCARTNEY: Yes, you know, there is a fun moment where I was in my dressing room doing an interview, and the guy was asking me about why I got into bands, and I said, well, in the beginning, it was like really to get girls, and then Heather hears me. She's in the next room working on e-mail, and says tell them you don't want to. Be quiet, come on, get back in the kitchen. So we had a bit of fun.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MCCARTNEY: Shouting from the kitchen, get back to the dishes.
HEATHER MILLS: Let's just say that you wouldn't want to. It makes it sound like I force you.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
MCCARTNEY: Is that the way you guys are behind the scenes? Not always, but sometimes, yes, you know.
LIN: How are you finding married life now?
MCCARTNEY: Sorry?
LIN: How are you finding married life?
MCCARTNEY: I am loving it. It's really nice. I'm a romantic kind of guy, you know, so I don't like to be alone. And I'm very lucky, after 30 years with the beautiful woman that Linda was, I found another lady, you know, a year and a half after Linda passed away, and we have a lot in common. We have a lot of fun. She's a smart cookie, and she's got a great purpose in life, and she's not hard to look at.
LIN: Not at all.
And you know what's really neat about watching this film "Back in the U.S." is it really encapsulates your life and shows how much you've evolved over the years from all of your Beatles hits and the warm reception that this new generation has given to your new life with Heather.
MCCARTNEY: Yes. it really is fabulous. Somebody sort of said, it's the soundtrack to our lives. You know, in some ways, that's true. For me, it's great, because every song I sing has a different memory
Some of them go right back to the real earliest recordings of the Beatles. Some of them go through "The Wings" period. And some are more recent.
It's the soundtrack to my life, that's for sure.
