DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: I want to bring you the latest now on the breaking story in Chicago, and that is the governor of Indiana, Frank O'Bannon, collapsing there earlier there this morning. Our Jeff Flock standing by with more on the story -- Jeff.
JEFF FLOCK, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Indeed, Daryn. We just got off with the hospital. In fact, I do confirm that Governor O'Bannon of Indiana, 47th governor of Indiana, is in fact there. This morning, he was rushed from the Palmer House Hotel here in Chicago, where he was attending a conference, the Midwest-U.S.-Japan Conference. It's a gathering of about 400 senior CEOs and executives from companies inside Japan, as well as here in the Midwest. It's a meetings scheduled to foster trade and cooperation that way. He was attending this session, collapsed and was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
We were just on the phone with Northwestern. They in fact confirmed he is there. There is an unconfirmed report the governor's condition is critical.
This is a hospital in Chicago that is sort of known for having high-profile politicians who have things like heart attack and stroke that wind up there. The first Mayor Daly was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital afternoon he collapsed and later died at the hospital. Harold Washington, the other well-known mayor of Chicago in past, also had a heart and was quickly taken to Northwestern and was -- died there as well, and of course the current Mayor Daly also recently had a heart attack and also taken to Northwestern. So a lot of experience with this and high-profile politicians. But at this point, Daryn, we don't know a lot more than that in terms of his condition. Governor O'Bannon is 73 years old, he's married and has three children, two-term governor of Indiana.
And you may remember him recently. He's the man for the first time issued a stay of execution to someone who was slated to die, a man named Darnell Williams on Indiana death row, and that is a case that's still pending as we speak.
KAGAN: Yet another story that you were covering for us I believe from Indianapolis.
Jeff, thank you for that. We'll be tracking Governor O'Bannon's condition.
FLOCK: I'll let you know.
