FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Tear jerker. You're looking at a clip from the new movie "Cold Mountain" which opens tomorrow. Part love story, part sweeping epic set during the Civil War and stars Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and Jude Law. And it's already earned eight Golden Globe nominations. "Cold Mountain" is one of several new movies with big name stars out this holiday season. Here to tell you which Christmas releases are naughty or nice is Mr. Moviefone, also known as Russ Leatherman. Good to see you, Russ.
RUSS LEATHERMAN, "MR. MOVIEFONE": Good to see you too. I just love when Jude Law says, "I love you."
WHITFIELD: "I love you."
LEATHERMAN: " I love you."
WHITFIELD: Yes, they threw those accents down pretty good, those two non-Americans.
LEATHERMAN: They really did. And in fact that's the one beef that people are saying they have with this movie is the fact they don't believe the accents.
You've got to get past that. This is quite a spectacular movie. I think it's maybe the best of the epics that we've seen in the last couple of months. It is Nicole Kidman and Jude Law. He does a fantastic job.
He's a Civil War soldier who just doesn't want to be a soldier anymore. So he goes on this long trek, he's wounded and goes back to Cold Mountain to go back to Nicole Kidman.
I really thought it was beautifully shot, fantastic acting. You'll see these guys nominated for awards. It's a beautiful holiday move. Go check it out.
WHITFIELD: If it's not drama or love story, how about comedy? how about "Cheaper by the Dozen"? You like it?
LEATHERMAN: "Cheaper by the Dozen." This is the big Steve Martin flick. It does star Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hillary Duff. And really he's a football coach that moves to the big city for the big time job. the parents discover that and they can't work and raise the kids at the same time. So they move back to the small town.
I have to tell you that I felt a little bit like I had some mad cow after I watched this movie. I mean I had a headache. I felt nauseous. This is an awful move. If you're going to go see a family film, this is probably not the one. It's just gag after gag after gag. Cheap cinema.
WHITFIELD: How about this new fantasy, new spin on "Peter Pan."
LEATHERMAN: "Peter Pan" is really quite a terrific movie. It's the best use of computer-generated effects I've seen with Tinker Bell and the fairy dust and all of that. It's quite a nice telling of a familiar story.
Don't take your little kids. Don't kids under 5-years-old because they'll be crying like little babies when the crocodile comes out and there's some peril.
But for everybody else it's really a beautifully-done movie and I really liked it.
WHITFIELD: I'm looking forward to that one. That looks interesting.
All right. Russ Leatherman, Mr. Moviefone, thank you very much. That's all we can get too right.
LEATHERMAN: Happy holidays. It's great seeing you enjoy the movies.
WHITFIELD: Happy holidays.
