DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: A different kind of glamour and glitz. We're looking at the perennial Hollywood buzz words, of course. And you can get the star treatment from spas, shops and boutiques that help celebs get ready for the red carpet glitz.
David Keeps is a Los Angeles correspondent for "Travel + Leisure" magazine, and he is writing about just that in this month's issue.
Good morning.
DAVID KEEPS, "TRAVEL + LEISURE" MAGAZINE: Good morning. How are you?
KAGAN: Of course, we're leading up to Oscar, which is...
KEEPS: We are.
KAGAN: ... speeded up this year. It's February 29.
KEEPS: Some more pampering in faster time than ever.
KAGAN: I'm fully in favor of that. The idea of the piece in "Travel + Leisure" this month is to show people who are perhaps not going to be on the red carpet that you, too, for the right price, can have a taste of what the stars get.
KEEPS: For the right price, absolutely. "Travel + Leisure" in the February issue hired Peter Boyles' (ph) wife, Lorraine Alterman Boyles (ph), to open her black book for us and let us in on her secrets.
KAGAN: Like where does she go. OK, first, let's go -- for a lot of gals, it starts with hair and makeup.
KEEPS: Absolutely, hair and makeup. There are a couple of really, really brilliant salons, of course, in Los Angeles. There's Salon Prive, and that is next door to the Ona Spa. And that's pretty much your one-stop shopping. You can go and get your botox done there. You can get the wrinkles removed and then you can go and have the face put on.
KAGAN: Excellent. And get your hair done with Lorans (ph)...
KEEPS: Absolutely.
KAGAN: ... the big stylist there. And now, once you have the hair and makeup thing working, shops. Where do the stars go to get the fabulous outfits?
KEEPS: Well, if you don't have a lot of time and you want to do a one-stop shopping thing again, it's Barney's New York, of course, in Beverly Hills.
KAGAN: Barneys' New York, but in Beverly Hills.
KEEPS: Barney's New York, Rodeo Drive -- Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hill. Absolutely. And they have personal shoppers there if you don't have a stylist of your own, if you're one of those people who tend to go it alone.
KAGAN: And if you're coming in town, the hot hotels to stay at?
KEEPS: If you're coming in town, the hot hotels you'd want to stay at would be The Peninsula, where they have (UNINTELLIGIBLE) concierge service during the award season, and they will provide you -- say you need an evening bag or...
KAGAN: Because that happens, and you know.
KEEPS: It happens. Or you break a heel, right? And then what are you going to do?
KAGAN: I'm telling you.
KEEPS: And they have shoes and whatever you need, and obviously can arrange for all of your transportation and all of your other needs. And also Raffles L'Ermitage, where a lot of people like to go and look and watch the Academy Awards presentations there, because they have big 40-inch plasma TVs.
KAGAN: For the people who are too cool to actually go to the awards.
KEEPS: Absolutely.
KAGAN: And you stay back at L'Ermitage.
Now, of course, we usually, for our viewers, try to ask about price. You notice I didn't even go there, because this -- I mean, come on. We're talking big bucks.
KEEPS: Some things are -- well, you know, it's value-oriented. I mean, you know, $150 for a facial, I suppose it's your night, and if you want to glow, you should invest the money in it.
KAGAN: They do that. And then also access is a whole other question. Can you get an appointment at Prive?
KEEPS: Well, yes, you can probably call and rave and say, oh, I read about you in "Travel + Leisure," and I simply must.
KAGAN: That's what it is.
KEEPS: Yes.
KAGAN: That's -- OK.
KEEPS: Drop a name.
KAGAN: You know, when I say it's Daryn, they hang up. I forgot to say that David Keeps from "Travel + Leisure" sent me.
KEEPS: Absolutely.
KAGAN: And if you can't do all of that, just check out the magazine and dream a little bit.
KEEPS: Absolutely.
KAGAN: Thank you very much. It's the February issue of "Travel + Leisure." It gives you an idea of how the stars are pampering themselves and getting ready. David, thank you for of that.
KEEPS: Thank you, Daryn.
